Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in wireless connectivity by launching Wi-Fi 6E, the latest Wi-Fi technology, in the 6 Gigahertz (GHz) spectrum band. This makes Pakistan the 10th country in the Asia Pacific and one of 60 worldwide to adopt this advanced technology.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced this development at an event titled “Unlocking Pakistan’s Connectivity: Enablement of Next-Gen Wi-Fi in 6GHz Band”. PTA Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman said this move places Pakistan as a leader in the region for next-generation Wi-Fi technology.
Wi-Fi 6E offers faster internet speeds, lower delay, and more capacity, making it perfect for online gaming, video streaming, and virtual reality. It will also help reduce congestion and delay issues found in the current 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, which are used by many devices like microwaves, Bluetooth, and cordless phones.
This launch is part of the “Digital Pakistan” initiative, aimed at boosting digital innovation, empowering businesses, and closing the digital gap. With Wi-Fi 6E, Pakistan aims to provide more reliable and high-speed internet, supporting a more inclusive digital economy.
Experts from companies like META, Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA), Jazz, Nayatel, and Huawei praised the benefits of Wi-Fi 6E in Pakistan. They highlighted how it will enhance user experience, increase capacity, and improve performance, revolutionizing online connectivity and interaction in the country.
