SUPARCO Announces Launch of Multi-Mission Communications Satellite on May 30

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has announced the launch of a multi-mission communications satellite, PakSat MM-1. The satellite will be launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center on May 30.

A Suparco spokesperson stated that PakSat MM-1 is a joint venture between Suparco and the Chinese Aerospace Industry, aimed at enhancing the country’s communication and connectivity infrastructure.

Currently, Pakistan has two operational satellites in space. PakSat-1R, launched in 2011 with a design life of 15 years, is expected to remain functional until 2026. Additionally, the remote sensing satellite PRSS-1 was launched in 2018. Recently, Pakistan also launched the iCube-Qamar satellite.
